When the heat hits over 110 degrees it is time to face the truth. It is too hot outside! It is too warm to enjoy a walk. But, is it too warm for using your sketchbook? I would say no. Go get some paper and let's do some fantastic sketches. What about something that inspires you currently? Make some doodle about recent things you are interested in. Different doodles of cactus, flowers, cats, dogs, cars, or ice cream?
I will go for ice cream and maybe later I will get some ice cream for real and treat myself in this heat. Arizona can be very challenging in summer (especially for Germans who aren't used to the heat at all). Well, here is a list to get you inspired to get your paper and pencil and enjoy doodling whatever comes to your mind:
- Paper! Yes, get some cool paper you like. Maybe colored paper? Something fancy? Special texture on your paper? Or rustic wrapping paper? You're the boss!
- Pencils! A lead pencil, eraser, pencil sharpener (basic stuff) and a fine liner or sharpie in black. That's all you need. Simple, right?
Just start drawing/ doodling whatever comes to your mind. You can't do anything wrong! If you want to draw strawberries, draw a bunch of them, each as a different version. That way you start to collect a number of cool illustrations of the same thing.
The sharpie will be great to highlight your illustration! You can adjust your lines and redraw your illustration. Erase the lead pencil drawing and voila! I do like this technique because it allows me to scan my drawings and digitalize them. The bold black lines stand perfectly out from the paper and it builds a nice contrast. Later on, you can color your illustration maybe with a digital program (I do use photoshop or illustrator for that)?
