As my domain name already shows, and maybe you already read about on my blog, I am definitely a loving cat mom. I think having a pet is more than just taking responsibility, you welcome a furry friend for life. Originally I wanted a dog, but now I'm here and have 2 cats. Crazy world!
These furry followers are just brightening up every day. I think there's nothing better you can do than adopting a pet from the shelter. That's where I found my beloved and purrfect friends. When my husband and I saw Tuff (our first cat) we immediately knew, he is meant to be part of our little family. Since then, there isn't a single day without a smile and laughter, not a single day without being happy to have cats in our life. If I could I would adopt every pet in the entire world, that lives in a shelter or on the streets. But I'm not a wonder woman and it might be a crazy task I can't solve all alone. But I can highlight the great time I have with my pets and encourage people to follow.
Originally after Tuff, we wanted to adopt a dog, we went to the shelter and I saw the cutest little kitten in the entire world. I forgot immediately all plans of getting a dog. I held Whiskers and looked into her eyes and I knew she was simply purrfect to me. A little shy and so vulnerable small kitten. I enjoy watching her grow every day and going on adventures with Tuff.
Since we adopted Tuff in 2015 and Whiskers in 2016 we always had a companion waiting for us to come home, greeting us, and comfort us. Whenever they felt something was wrong they curled up in your lap and never left your side. They play with you, they are thankful for every meal we serve, and every attention we spend. They wait for us to wake up and play, and they wait for us to return home and greet us.
There's no better way of experiencing how simple it can be to enjoy the small things in life. A clean litter box, a fresh water dish and some delicious food and you're the king of the world! It is so relaxing and fun to watch our cats growing up, playing together and discovering the world in their own cat's eyes.
When I get home and I experience how simple you can make someone happy by just opening a can of cat food it fills me with joy. Pets are a reminder that we are loved and worshipped, not for our money, not for our skills, but just for that we simply are there, and that we are there for someone and we take care.
If you consider a pet make sure to calculate how much time you will have for a pet and if your pet would be accepted in your apartment. Talk with your landlord about pets if you're renting an apartment. If you can afford and will have the time for daily extra tasks you should definitely get a dog. Be aware that a dog is a huge commitment: Training, playing, taking for a walk, grooming, ... these are just a few of the tasks and some of them are even daily. And dogs are very expensive. Food, insurance, vet, ...
If you're very busy with your job it might be better to stick with a more independent pet like a cat. It's not that a cat doesn't need the same attention as a dog, but it is more independent in its behavior. Most cats don't need extra grooming, they are fine with taking a walk by their own. They don't even want to wear a walking garment: "How dare you and put that on me human!" would be a common response of your furriend . A cat is very often relaxed and cool about many things. As long as you provide the love, the food, the shelter, and take care they will be thankful and very happy with you.
A great place to look for is a pet shelter. You will definitely find a friend for life and a thankful little follower for life. All cats we got from the shelter were very well toilet trained, well behavoured and clean. People who volunteer and work for the shelters are putting so much effort in training the pets and preparing them for their furrever home. Many pets need a loving home and a place to call their own. Usually, pets from the shelters are having their shots, had their check ups, and are sterilized and castrated, so you don't have to worry about that.
