Freehand (Helen Birch)
I found this book a while ago in a local second hand bookstore. I love the examples in this book and it is inspiring to me. How many different techniques and multimedia options! It definitely is a huge influence for my sketches and sketchbook work.
This book showcases different sketching tips and tricks from established artists and illustrators. Every drawing is explained in it's principal elements like color, shading, composition, texture, tone, format and more. Also, the medium used is explained and there is a variety of medium to explore in the examples.
The author also categorizes the art work in type of drawing and in subjects (portrait, animals, landscape, and many more). I do like that there are so many opportunities to research different styles. No matter if I want to look up a subject, a medium, or for a certain type of drawing, I will find what I am looking for.
I found many great artists and ideas in this book, published by Chronicle books. If you want to spice up your sketches or want to find different approaches to drawing techniques: This book is great!
